Administration & Finance

The Administration and Finance Division is responsible for the administration, finance and overall operational direction of the District including Technical Support, Plant Operations, Maintenance, and capital improvements. The Division also prepares the annual budget and assessments and formulates and administers policy concerning all functions of the District.

Engineering & Safety

The primary function of our Engineering staff is to provide technical support services to the District’s Maintenance, Operations and Administration Divisions. The Engineering staff are responsible for long-term capital improvement planning and the management of all District construction and capital upgrade projects. They are also responsible for all technical support documents such as engineering drawings, and operation & maintenance manuals for all District projects and equipment. Additionally, they oversee the entire District collection system, conduct condition assessments, and coordinate with member communities on relevant projects. Engineering staff are also responsible for the District’s Environmental Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Laboratory

District laboratory staff are responsible for maintaining state certification of our on-site laboratory, and provide technical support to the other District divisions. The lab staff collect and analyze samples from throughout the treatment plant and collection system on a daily basis to generate data necessary to ensure the treatment plant is operating at optimum performance and in compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations. In addition to the management staff listed below, SESD employs three chemists and technicians who complete the laboratory work at the facility.

Monitoring & Enforcement

The Monitoring & Enforcement team is responsible for carrying out the District’s Industrial Pretreatment Program which has been developed to ensure that all regulations are met for waste that enters the collection system. Monitoring & Enforcement staff are responsible for the permitting and routine inspection of industrial facilities that wish to discharge into the District’s collection system. In addition to the management staff listed below, SESD employs two pretreatment specialists who conduct the inspections and sampling needed to implement the pretreatment program.

Operations

Operations staff are responsible for running the equipment necessary to treat and disinfect wastewater in accordance with all applicable state and federal regulations. Staff are on duty controlling the flow of wastewater from the District’s pumping stations through the treatment plant 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They monitor pumping equipment and tank levels throughout the plant as wastewater is transferred from one process to another. Operations staff are responsible for performing daily inspections throughout the plant to ensure all equipment is operating correctly, and are also responsible for the overall cleanliness of the District’s facilities. In addition to the management staff listed below, SESD employs twenty two Chief Operators, Operators, and Operators Assistants who are on staff 24 hours a day to operate the SESD treatment facility.

Maintenance

Maintenance staff are responsible for continuing and preventative maintenance of all the District’s physical assets. Mechanics maintain and repair equipment such as pumps, motors, fans, and conveyors, including our District vehicles. Electricians and Instrumentation Technicians ensure that electrical and communications equipment function properly to keep system processes online and in balance. Our Facilities crew is responsible for all the District’s buildings and grounds at the treatment plant, as well as at the remote pump stations. They are also responsible for the District’s collection system. In addition to the management staff listed below, SESD employs nineteen maintenance mechanics, technicians, electricians, and other specialists to maintain SESD’s treatment equipment and systems.
