SSO Notification – 70 Village Street, Marblehead

A Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) caused by a rain event and peak wastewater flows started at approximately 6:38 a.m. on January 10, 2024 at a manhole adjacent to 70 Village Street in Marblehead, MA. This overflow likely consists of untreated sewage. The estimated approximate flow rate of the SSO event is 150 gallons per minute. The manhole where the SSO is occurring is owned and maintained by the South Essex Sewerage District.

This SSO could potentially enter the stormwater system and flow into Hawthorne Pond in Marblehead. Avoid contact with this water body for 48-hours after the discharge or overflow ceases due to the increased health risks from bacteria and other pollutants.
