SESD Wins NEWEA Asset Management Excellence Award

On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, a team of SESD personnel attended the NEWEA Annual Conference & Exhibit in Boston, MA, where they were given the Asset Management Excellence Award. This is awarded to a nominated organization that demonstrates initiative and leadership in the area of asset management and can be one that has recently initiated or progressed their asset management program, with both successes and lessons learned considered.
SESD began working on a multi-phase Asset Management Sustainability Program in 2017, which has been ongoing ever since. In 2023, we completed a criticality and risk assessment of our assets. The scores were input into our Asset Management Software, which prioritized the importance of each asset, such as pumps, to determine a ranking for Operations and Maintenance activities. Work on this project continues, including Operator Driven Reliability training. We received a matching grant from the Massachusetts State Revolving Fund to help complete some of this work. Now, we are able to better manage and initiate preventative maintenance measures, improving overall longevity of our facilities as we make additional capital improvements.
